Patience For The Unknown

It seems like the last couple of years for me have been based in the attempt at gaining patience. I hate waiting for things, always have. I've forever been the type to see what I want and not be able to wait to get it. The quickest and easiest way possible, every time. Not much value living that way. Most things that come at you quick and easy... just don't last and a lot of the time, really hurt.

Then you try the opposite: Becoming extremely patient. So much in fact that life seemingly starts to Passing. You. By.

Where is the happy median? Is there such a thing as letting go of all the meaningless stuff that can disguise itself as important and wait for the truly impactful things, people and moments that can change your world forever? Is that really the middle ground of being impatient and patient?

I pride myself in leading with my heart with most things. I think that is the way to get what you truly want out of life...everytime. I also however, possess this annoying desire where I have to know all outcomes to all things before the circumstances or issues are even presented. Thus, the trouble of understanding patience surfaces.

I think I'm in an arm wrestling match with God.

But the good thing is that I know I can't win. I just hope to learn a bit more about myself... at the very least, how dumb it is to challenge God to arm wrestling, but realizing that when he inevitably wins...so do I.

One more thought: Is it considered being patient when you have absolutely no clue as to what might come in the future? Patience for the unknown? Is that possible?

Movie Preview: Away We Go

If you don't know, one of my favorite things are movie previews. Something about watching a preview that I love or can relate to really makes seeing the film more enjoyable. I usually have a good track record with picking good movies based on the preview...minus a few scratches (Burn After Reading...Be Kind, Rewind... Space Jam).

I think I found another good one.

Directed by Academy Award winner Sam Mendes (“American Beauty”) from an original screenplay by Dave Eggers and Vendela Vida, this funny and heartfelt film follows the journey of an expectant couple (John Krasinski [“The Office’] and Maya Rudolph [“Saturday Night Live’]), as they travel the U.S. in search of the perfect place to put down roots and raise their family. Along the way, they have misadventures and find fresh connections with an assortment of relatives and old friends who just might help them discover “home” on their own terms for the first time.

The one thing that has me hesitant with this one is the director.  The American Beauty director.  Awful.  But I've learned you can't really go wrong with Jim Halpert.  Ever.   And Maya Rudolph may be my secret favorite of the SNL cast members.  Based on the small preview, it's refreshing to see two people genuinely connected without the pressures of status, society and what it's "suppose to look like".  Just two people, forging one path together.  Anyway, the link is down below.  Tell me what you think.

Twitter This...

Twitter.  Alright.  I guess twitter is a way to tell everyone what is going on with you at that particular moment, whether it be that you're going to bed or that you hate the weather or the economy.  I hear about it all the time.  Famous people even do it... or their assistants do it for them.  New goal in life :  To become so rich and famous that I need to have an assistant type out a small sentences for me about what's in my head.

Not really.

Nevertheless...  www.twitter.com/theyellowfactor if you want to follow me with your twitter.   Our twitters could link up.  Maybe date a little.  I also have my twitter updated on the right side of this blog.  Man, I've just started it and I'm already annoyed with the name.

DVD Analytics

I have over 310 movies in my collection. I also have this program called DVDpedia that works exactly how iTunes works for music. The cool part about this DVD program is that it will give you analytics. Like how many movies are in certain genres, what director is in the most of your movies...etc. The interesting one I found is what actor/actresses are in the most movies of the collection.

Number one actor? John Cusack. (It's been rumored that I'm sort of him.)

Number one actress? Angelina Jolie. (Captial A-awesome.)

The next actor is Jim Carrey and actress Cameron Diaz...I can't stand Cameron Diaz. Why is she infiltrating my DVD collection?

I blame Ben Stiller.

Weird Fears

Every time I walk into a Hobby Lobby, I have this fear of knocking down a ton of picture frames and figurines.

Anyone?

Unknown Path

All you can do is what you feel is right..in your bones...is right. What you feel is best that will allow you to breathe... and pray all the pieces end up where they have been predestined to fall.

Eighty-Four

Yesterday morning in between our treadmill workout and medicine ball workout, an old man was having trouble entering the code to get in the gym.  We of course helped him in and he graciously said thank you and proceeded to get on a treadmill.  One thing to mention: He wasn't in workout gear.  Long sleeved button down shirt tucked into his belted blue jeans with his black walking shoes.  He went for about 15-20 minutes then went over to the weight machines.  He cranked out a couple sets of sitting bench presses then back on the treadmill for another good 15 minutes.  He started talking after that, saying that he has a gym membership but they have him on a program that is too tough for his 84 year old body.  Eighty-Four.  Treadmills and weight machines.  Fully dressed, ready to take on the world.  As he left he calmly stated, "Bye, young people!" and went about his day.

Here's to being 84 years old and still striving to better yourself.

Bean Bags And Shiver

I had a meeting today at the advertising agency that my company uses for our marketing.   We were going over website analytics and with my job being a website administrator, I suppose I was in the right place.  It was a bunch of talk from websites to page views.  Time spent per hit to geographical data.  Google indexing to domain referrals.  Fun stuff.  The thing that was cool and the reason why this is a post is the environment that this meeting took place in.  The advertising agency works out of this renovated warehouse.  Exposed ceiling.  Concrete floors.  Huge art on the wall with wired lighting all around that could be art in itself.  Big leather couches with iMac's...everywhere.  We had our meeting in the "conference room" that had a huge glass table with chairs that I swore to myself after sitting in one, I would be taking it with me.  A huge flat screen that hooked up to a mac mini for our web browsing needs.   I never felt so... (hi, I'm a mac).  I knew it was going to be a long meeting going in, but after being exposed to how the business environment should be conducted, I quickly wished the day would never end.   After the meeting, I asked the president if we could just take a corner of the warehouse and set up shop...  He then talked about the idea of bringing in a bean bag chair in the lobby.  Just because.  Awesome.

One more thing :  They had a playlist of some sort playing throughout the building and within our stay there,  Coldplay's 'Til Kingdom Come', 'In My Place', and 'Shiver' played.

I'm so meant to have a job that condones bean bags and Shiver.

I Like My Case Of The Mondays

So just when I was bummed that my "Melissa Mondays" were over... there she is in front of me dancing! Now I have "Dancing Melissa Time".... a couple days a week!

I don't know how I feel about those two previous sentences. I think I need to go see a monster truck rally or go kick around some puppies.

Still... Melissa. Is. Back.

Vote.

Time To Get Up

I was at the gym this morning at 5:30 and as I went to pray, I think I woke up God.

It was early.

Take Off Your Cool

Funny thing is that if you know this song, then you know just how cool it really is. Simple speaks volumes and it's just what I needed today.

Heeeeey yaaa... Ba-doo-baaaa-ba-doo-baaaaa

[Norah Jones]

Baby, take off your cool

I wanna see you, I wanna see you

Baby, don't be so cool

I wanna see you, I wanna see you

[Andre 3000]

Baby, take off your cool

I want to get to know you

Free Movie Screening

When offered a free screening for a new movie about to come out, you should probably get there really early.  You would think they would give out as many tickets as there are seats available...  but this is America.  What would it say to all of the other countries watching if supply and demand wasn't exhibited at all times?

Yeah, I didn't get in.

All Things Walmart

There are teenagers in front of you at Walmart, that will take every single pack of breath mints available and stick them up to their nose to try and smell them...through the wrapper...with the pack being closed and sealed.

Every. Single. Pack.
